New York State has one of the highest child poverty rates in the country, and many children in the state are facing food insecurity:
In 2023, 12.8% of households with children in New York State reported food insufficiency, compared to 8.5% of households without children. In 2022, 16% of households with children in New York experienced food insecurity.
Nearly 1 in 5 children in New York State experience regular hunger. Black and Latine children are twice as likely to be affected by hunger and food insecurity.
In New York City, one in every four children lives in poverty. The poverty line for a family of four living in rental housing in New York City in 2022 was $43,890.
Our dream is that by 2035, not one child will be undernourished.
